A new dispute resolution process for Strata Corporations in BC is in the works. Presently the Court of Justice for the Strata cases is the Supreme Court of .C and for many years that was the final dispute resolution course (going to court). The good news for Strata (condominium) owner’s is that on May 31, 2012 BC passed legislation setting up a new civil resolutions tribunal for Strata’s.
The system is much like tenants of rental properties have enjoyed under the Residential Tenancy Act with the Residential Tenancy office. This new tribunal will give owners and residents of Strata complexes a better mechanism for settling disputes that arise in Strata Corporations. It’s in the works and the tribunal should be operational by 2014.
